Labor Department Award to Housing America for Housing Assistance

Somerton, AZ “Assistance with rent and utility payments for our farmworkers is a primary need in Yuma County,” explained Thomas Ryan, Housing America’s Executive Director.

Housing America is once again a recipient of a Labor Department grant to provide rent and utility payment assistance to eligible farmworkers. The Department recently announced awards totaling $5,509,657 to 11 organizations as part of its National Farmworker Jobs Program.

“Unlike previous years, our grant and all of the resources that will now come with it annually, will allow us to manage the program year round. We had previously managed this valuable resource during the summer months only. However, we know that many of our farmworkers struggle even during the harvest season, ” added Ryan.

The Department’s awards are for a 4-year period of performance and will fund program years (PY) 2016 2019, that is, July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2020.
