Mutual Self-Help ProgramThe Mutual Self-Help program provides assistance to very low and low income individuals willing to participate in the construction of their home. It is a requirement that at least 65% of the home's construction be completed by the individual(s) who along with 10 - 11 other families will work together as a group. Participants are required to attend Pre-Purchase and Homeownership Education class and commit to 2080 hours of construction labor. A skilled Housing America construction supervisor provides technical assistance during the construction process. The construction processes takes approximately 10 to 12 months to complete. All families move into their new homes when all the groups' houses are completed and inspected by a USDA Rural Development representative and all other required inspections.
